App Development: Does No-Code Mean No Security?

App Development: Does No-Code Mean No Security? "The new trend in enterprise application development: creating new applications without writing code. "Low-code" or "no-code" development platforms offer the promise of rapid application development — often by business-unit or subject-matter experts — without the overhead of traditional development by traditional developers. The question is whether no-code also means no security. From content management systems like WordPress to enterprise application builders like Appian, no/low-code platforms are intended to allow developers to focus on the application logic while the details of device, delivery network, and user interfaces are left to the platform. "Low-code and no-code development models are powerful and democratize development for non-technical users to easily build powerful workflows," says Vinay Mamidi, senior director of project management at Virsec. "But there’s always a gotcha -- while trained developers may have varying levels of skill in security, no-code developers are generally oblivious to security best practices or risks." Melinda Gates Proclaim Chicago As The First Gender-Inclusive Tech Hub

Melinda Gates GETTY IMAGES FOR THR Melinda Gates Names Chicago First Gender-Inclusive Tech Hub "Melinda Gates has a vision of how gender-inclusive tech hubs would function, and her new initiative is attempting to create three of them. The first stop is Chicago. Gates announced today that Pivotal Ventures, her investment and incubation company will be launching an initiative, Gender Equality in Tech (GET) Cities, designed to accelerate the representation and leadership of women in tech, through the development of inclusive tech hubs across the United States. Rather than focusing on male-dominated Silicon Valley, this effort is targeting gender equality in up-and-coming tech hubs. Chicago was chosen as the first of three hubs, and additional cities will be selected in the next few years. Gates explained the rationale for targeting smaller hubs in GET Cities, 'As the tech industry continues to expand beyond Silicon Valley to other areas across the country, we have the opportunity to reimagine what the sector could look like. If these emerging tech hubs are supported to prioritize women’s representation and inclusion as they grow, they will be better positioned to tap into the full range of local talent, while also helping create a blueprint for closing the industry’s gender gap nationwide.'" Google Ads New Update: Standard Delivery

Google Ads have a new feature: Standard Delivery Google Ads is changing the way your daily ad budget is used.  "Google announced it is switching all campaigns, not just Search campaigns, Shopping campaigns, and shared budgets but also Display, Video, App and Hotel campaigns to Standard delivery. This is happening starting in April 2020 and any campaign using Accelerated delivery will be switched over in May 2020. Google already dropped accelerated delivery last September for Search campaigns, Shopping campaigns, and shared budgets. But now Google is going all in with Standard delivery and removing the accelerated option for all campaign types. Google wrote 'Your ad delivery method determines how long your daily budget lasts within a day. Last year, we announced that Standard delivery would be the only delivery method for Search campaigns, Shopping campaigns, and shared budgets. Standard delivery takes into account expected ad performance throughout the day, making it more effective at maximizing performance within your daily budget. We’re continuing to update your ad delivery options to help you maximize performance within your daily budget. That's why, starting April 2020, Standard delivery will be the only ad delivery method for any new Display, Video, App and Hotel campaigns. Accelerated delivery will no longer be available. All existing Display, Video, App and Hotel campaigns using Accelerated delivery will be automatically switched to Standard delivery starting May 2020.'" To learn more, click here. Love social media? Big Tech in Healthcare isn’t going anywhere

Big tech isn’t going away — and its healthcare moves will only get bolder "This has become a perennial prediction, but it’s still an important one. Few people believe at this point that Amazon’s Amazon Care program will stay an employee experiment for long. We’re convinced it’s headed for a wider rollout that will see Amazon offering, or at least facilitating, telemedicine services, disrupting the supply chain for care the same way it has with so many other things. Exactly what form that will take remains to be seen, but healthcare is a market ripe for disruption and Amazon is well-positioned to get more involved in disrupting it, as indeed they already have with mail-order prescription delivery. We’ve heard surprisingly little out of Haven, Amazon’s joint venture with JP Morgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway, but we suspect Haven and Amazon Care are pieces of the same puzzle. Apple and Google may not be taking as direct a role, but we expect to see them slowly expanding their role as well. Apple continues to invest in a whole ecosystem of hardware and software around both health monitoring and mobile-enabled health research. Recent signals by Google that it may want to compete — including a new 510(k) clearance for the Verily Study Watch and the company’s acquisition of Fitbit — should only heat up Apple’s efforts. As for Google, we had the opportunity to hear Google Health VP David Feinberg speak last week at the Startup Health Festival. After sharing several interesting AI projects the company is involved in around mammography and eye health, this is how he described the company’s vision: 'Fundamentally in 10 years, I feel like we'll be successful if we have helped the health care system in communities redesign health care. So it's actually centered around patients and families. I think we ...

Tech News: Amazon developing hand-scanning technology

Tech News: Amazon developing hand-scanning technology "Amazon.com Inc. is reported to be developing point of sale terminals that would accept a scan of a user’s hand to make a payment, according to The Wall Street Journal. The POS terminals would be placed in brick-and-mortar stores and would negate the need for customers to present a physical card to make a payment. Amazon is working with Visa Inc. on the terminals and is in discussion with Mastercard Inc. as well. Card providers such as JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co. and Synchrony Financial are also said to be interested in the technology. Naturally, the hand would have to be linked to a card prior to being accepted. Of interest, however, is that at least how it reads, the initial model would see that link established by the retailer for regular customers as opposed to the card provider establishing that link in a centralized database. What this would mean is that initially hand payments would be localized to a particular retailer rather than becoming an alternative way to process payments at many outlets as with exiting card payment services. 'Amazon envisions that customers would first use the terminals to link their debit or credit card information to their hands,' the Journal noted, adding that in one example that 'customers might insert cards into a terminal and then let the terminal scan their hands. From then on, they would only need to place a hand over the terminal to pay at a participating merchant.'" Read More Have an idea for a new tech? Chat with us below! ...

FAQ for becoming a Medical Coder

FAQ for becoming a Medical Coder 1. Who hires medical coders? "Nearly every single health care provider uses coded documentation and records. A single hospital may have 50 coders working at any given time — but hospitals are just one of the potential work environments. Inpatient and outpatient facilities, urgent and semi-urgent care facilities, clinics, nursing homes, sports medicine offices, mental health facilities and, of course, doctor’s offices are just a few of the places where well-trained, reliable coders can find a career." 2. Can medical coding be done at home? "Yes! Many organizations allow or even encourage telecommuting. Working from home can make the job easier for you and cheaper for your employer, all without sacrificing quality or precision, thanks to advancements like collaborative workflow programs, application-based software and videoconferencing. Flexjobs.com lists hundreds of coding jobs, many of which can be done in the comfort of your own home." 3. How can I network with like-minded professionals and prospective employers? Medical coders — as well as the people and groups that hire, educate, certify and advise them — are organized into trade associations, academies, industry organizations, forums and networking groups. Tech News: Transforming Cars into Smartphones

Tech News: Transforming Cars into Smartphones "Technology companies transformed smartphones and televisions into continuous fountains of revenue. Now, big tech wants to work with automakers to do the same thing for your car.  With the widespread rollout of autonomous vehicles still years away, the two industries have converged on the idea of cars providing services and features delivered “over the air” - that is, over the same wireless data networks used by smart phones. Those services - streaming video, vehicle performance upgrades, dashboard commerce - could answer a pressing need for automakers. They need to learn how to milk their hardware for revenue long after vehicles roll off dealers’ lots. Tech companies see cars and the time people spend in them as a new frontier for growth. Both auto and tech companies used the big CES technology show here this week to showcase their determination to make the vision of vehicles as connected revenue machines a reality. Cloud computing giants Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O) and Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) were in the forefront, chasing the opportunity to manage torrents of data flowing to and from connected vehicles. “It’s absolutely huge,” General Motors Co (GM.N) President Mark Reuss said in December of the opportunities to generate revenue after a vehicle is sold by providing streamed services and over-the-air upgrades facilitated by GM’s new high-capacity onboard electrical system."
