But the actual numbers are lower than they could be: According to a 2016 report from the National Center for Women & Information Technology, women hold only 25% of computing occupations.

A 2013 study published in Oxford Academic and discussed (paywall) in Harvard Business Review found that 50% of women employed in technical fields, mostly in engineering and computer science, had switched out of those fields after 12 years. The question we should be asking ourselves is why. Only 20% of professional women working in other fields had switched careers at the end of a 12-year period.
